Sports professionals can present a particular challenge when it comes to chiropractic care. Acute and cumulative trauma injuries; muscle imbalance, restriction, or weakness; and discomfort resulting from the particular stress athletes can place on their spines and pelvises through repetitive practice can all be major concerns for even the fittest and most aware athletes. Their long dedication, often dating to early childhood, to attaining their goals and perfecting their game can be a complication as well. Some, particularly young, athletes may be reluctant to acknowledge the issues they face or to take the time necessary to address them.

Troy Van Biezen, DC ‘97, is a former professional athlete himself and understands these issues intimately. His experience and training enable him to give professional athletes access to the individualized health care necessary to improve their performance, life balance, health, and quality of life. As Dr. Van Biezen notes, “Four out of five golf professionals experience back pain as a result of repetitive swinging,” and are very aware of the importance of spinal and pelvic motion to their performance.

When Jordan Spieth made his record-breaking win at the 2015 Masters Tournament he included Dr. Van Biezen among the partners who contributed to his victory, “Dr. Van Biezen is an important member of my team and, thanks to his care, my all-time dream of winning the Masters Tournament has now become a reality.” Dr. Van Biezen works with many sports and health organizations and professional athletes but makes himself particularly available to Spieth and other golfers with whom he travels full-time in order to provide consistent daily chiropractic care.
