Program Information

The Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Psychology reflects current trends in sports psychology through its emphasis on scientific research, psychological theory, and practice in coaching and counseling. In addition, the curriculum includes foundational courses in general psychology, applied sport psychology, exercise science, and positive leadership.

The program is an excellent preparatory program for students planning to attend graduate school in sport psychology, research, or a related field. In addition, the BS in Sport Psychology offers advanced training for professionals in education, coaching, health care, and wellness that wish to enhance their knowledge of Sport Psychology.

Length of Program

The degree program may be completed in a minimum of 10 terms of instruction and with a maximum satisfactory time frame for completion of 15 terms. The curriculum includes 34 semester credit hours of general education courses, 18 semester credit hours in interdisciplinary courses, and 69 semester credit hours in major required courses.  

Mode of Instruction

The Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sport Psychology is offered through distance education.

Learning Outcomes

The graduating student will be able to:

  • Interpret psychological theories and current trends in research related to sport psychology.
  • Discuss the legal and ethical issues in sport psychology and athletic performance.
  • Describe the physiological principles of athletic performance and the role of applied sport psychology in enhancing skills to improve athletic performance.
  • Analyze and apply techniques to improve athletic performance and enhance mental well-being.
  • Develop critical thinking and writing skills that describe empirical research.

 

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Psychology requires a minimum of 121 semester credit hours of coursework which are as follows:

  • 34 Credit hours in General Education courses.
  • 18 Credit hours in elective courses.
  • 69 Credit hours in major required courses.
