The Parker University Research Institute coordinates and facilitates the development and execution of a research agenda consistent with the overall mission of Parker University. That agenda has led to the advancement of the University within the scientific/professional community and contributed sound scientific evidence that supports public health and the chiropractic profession, education, business and technology.
The Research Institute provides sound, scientific evidence supporting health and wellness. A variety of our recent research efforts address such topics as patient safety, improved biomechanical function, and the contribution of chiropractic to overall wellness.
Over the years, the Research Institute has collaborated with such prestigious institutions as Yale University, the University of Oxford, the University of Chicago, and the University of Texas Medical School, and steered international studies in Australia, China, and Canada.
The Institute also serves as the research and development arm for companies worldwide seeking to provide evidence supporting the efficacy of their products.

Research Findings in the News
Research by Dr. Ndetan and his team presented at the 2013 American Public Health Association (APHA) annual conference in Boston, MA, was recognized as one of the Association’s news flash of the year.
The study on the role of concomitant consumption of light/moderate amount of alcohol and therapeutic amount of acetaminophen on renal dysfunction was also endorse through a press release by the Foundation of Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) in January 2014 and has attracted over 16 media interviewers and has been reported or cited in dozens of national and international media.

“Spinal Manipulation Reduces Pain and Hyperalgesia Produced by Lumbar Intervertebral Foramen Inflammation in the Rat” (J Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics, in press) received The Scott Haldeman Award, the first prize in the International Conferences on Chiropractic Research administrated by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research at the Eighth World Federation of Chiropractic Biennial Congress, Sydney, Australia, June 16-18, 2005.
Dr. Ndetan received the 2nd place award at the 15th Annual Research Appreciation Day oral presentation for his study on Injuries Associated with learning the manipulative therapy. The award was presented at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in April 2007.
An Honorable Mention was awarded to the Parker Research Institute for “Ask Me About Smoke Free” campaign by the Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, Texas Department of Health, 2006.

Dr. Harrison Ndetan has a graduate degree in Physics from the University of Buea in Cameroon and a graduate degree in Biostatistics and Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth.

Dr. Katherine (Katie) Pohlman is Parker’s Clinical Research Scientist with a specialty in research methodology. She has been active in scientific publishing since 2009, serves as a peer-reviewer for several journals and conference, and on the editorial board for 2 chiropractic journals.
Faculty Research Biographies
One of the most important elements of clinical research involves the successful recruitment of patients. Previous studies of chiropractic practices reveal that word-of-mouth and patient referrals are superior methods of advertising. A similar trend is often observed in the recruitment of patients for clinical trials.
In an effort to gain greater public exposure and establish a positive rapport with the community, researchers at the Parker Research Institute devote a significant portion of their time to various community health events/projects and organizations. Patients are not only presented with the opportunity to participate in research that might be of importance to them, but they become educated about chiropractic wellness and the benefits of chiropractic care to their overall health and well being.
Perhaps the motivation to make a difference in the lives of community members may best be described in a thank you letter from a former patient, “It pleases me to just be noticed and considered.”
