Stephen Paterno, DC

Director of Clinical Education, Parker Chiropractic Wellness Clinic – Dallas

Dr. Stephen Paterno is originally from Pennsylvania. He went to college at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida. Dr. Paterno has taught in various areas of Biology, Chemistry, and Health Care Education since 2009. After 5 years as a Clinic Faculty Doctor, Dr. Paterno now serves as the Director of Clinical Education for Parker University. He resides in the greater Dallas area with his wife and 2 sons.

Doug Sanford, DC, BA, CCSP, MCS-P, CCCPC

Director of Compliance and Operations, Parker University Wellness Clinics

Dr. Sanford earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Texas Chiropractic College in 1990.  After graduation he practiced as an associate doctor in Houston, Texas before entering private practice in Corpus Christi where he also served as a designated doctor.  He joined Parker Chiropractic College in 1995 where he served as a Clinic Faculty Doctor and gradually transitioned to course director for Internship I, II and III.  Dr. Sanford was mobilized by the United States Army in 2003 and retired from military service in 2008.  He returned to Parker College of Chiropractic as a Clinic Faculty Doctor and was later selected to be the Director of Compliance and Operations.

Leon Tom, BS, DC, CCSP, DAAPM, Director

Director of Clinics, Parker Chiropractic Wellness Clinic

Dr. Tom is originally from Toronto, Canada. He attended McMaster University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Parker University – College of Chiropractic in 1999 and the Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner program from Logan University in 2001. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, spending time with his family, watching performing arts and playing ice hockey. Dr. Tom joined Parker University in 2005 as a Clinic Faculty Doctor and was promoted in 2009 to Director of the Irving Clinic. In 2018 he was promoted to Director of Clinics. His experience includes being a designated doctor for the Texas Department of Insurance.

Dallas Clinic

Davis McAlister, DC, MEd, BS, BA

Dr. Davis McAlister is a Clinic Faculty Doctor for the Parker University Dallas Wellness Clinic, beginning in 2017. Dr. McAlister earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from Parker University in 2003. He immediately went into private practice in Lewisville, TX, and later opened a second office in Little Elm, TX. In 2008, he took over as the Health Science Program Coordinator for Little Elm Independent School District, as well as coaching football, powerlifting, track, and baseball, and operating as the district strength and conditioning coach. He moved to Bridgeport in 2013, to continue serving in the same capacity, in addition to serving as an Assistant Principal and an Adjunct Professor for Weatherford College, teaching Anatomy and Physiology. During his career in public education, he has received numerous awards for teaching, curriculum development, and for coaching athletes to the state level of competition. He has maintained a part time practice while serving in education, focusing primarily on sports-related injuries for the past 10 years. Dr. McAlister has been a team doctor for various high school sports teams and both pro- and semi-pro sports teams.

Dr. McAlister served in Military Intelligence for the US Army from 1991-1999 as a Human Intelligence Specialist and linguist. After his military service, he attended Mississippi State University to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Science, played football, and was the Founding President of the MSU Chapter of Epsilon Tau Sigma, National Veterans Fraternity. Dr. McAlister has also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Anatomy from Parker University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Sul Ross State University, and holds a Principal Administrator Certification from the Texas State Board of Education.

Dr. McAlister is excited to bring his extensive field and educational experiences to Parker University. He specializes in chiropractic treatment for sports-related injuries, rehabilitation, taping, and soft-tissue. He hopes to inspire interns to be confident in their abilities as they approach their final stages to becoming Doctors of Chiropractic.

Mike Raper, DC, DABCO, DAAPM, DABFE, DABDA, DCP

Professor

After graduating from Parker College of Chiropractic in 1987, Dr. Raper entered immediately into private practice and also pursued post-graduate training for his diplomate in Chiropractic Orthopedics. He started Impairment Rating Consultants in 1990, and has since been performing impairment ratings, second opinion evaluations, and expert court witnessing in the state of Texas. He started his own impairment rating seminar series in conjunction with the Texas Chiropractic Association. He has also performed seminars for Texas Chiropractic College, Parker College of Chiropractic, Texas Council of Chiropractic Orthopedics, Northwestern Health Sciences University, and Palmer College of Chiropractic. He was a consultant for the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners hired Dr. Raper to be a consultant to help administer the Part IV Examination. He’s presently on the Board of Directors for the Texas Chiropractic Association, District 5, and president for the Dallas County Chiropractic Society. He is also a member of: American Association of Integrative Medicine, American College of Forensic Examiners, National Board of Forensic Chiropractors, Council on Chiropractic Orthopedics, Parker Alumni Association, and American Chiropractic Association. Dr. Raper worked for Parker College of Chiropractic from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2005 to the present, as the director of the Student Chiropractic Wellness Clinic, and member of the Compliance and Assessment team. He also has chaired numerous committees and is a full professor in rank. Dr. Raper is licensed in Texas, Oklahoma, and Nevada.

Gary Tam, B.A., B.S., D.C., FIAMA

Professor, Parker Chiropractic Wellness Clinic – Dallas

Dr. Gary Tam graduated Cum Laude from Parker University in 2002. Along with his Doctorate degree in Chiropractic, he also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy, as well as an Acupuncture Certification from Parker University. He successfully completed his board certifications and is licensed in both Canada and the United States. After licensure, he worked for 13 years in several occupational medical practices in and around the DFW area, eventually serving as the Director of physical services for a CARF facility. It was while working in the multidisciplinary setting that Dr. Tam developed particular interests in pre- and post-operative rehabilitation with a focus on active care and pain management, as well as patient education. In 2009-10, he continued to develop his pain management clinical skills by obtaining his post graduate Fellowship in Acupuncture; thus, furthering his philosophy of conservative and natural approaches to optimum health and wellness. Dr. Tam joined the Parker Clinical Faculty in the fall of 2015, due to his desire to expand his role and facilitate future Chiropractors in the educational process. It is his feeling that his clinical experiences gained in the Internships at Parker University, prepared him for the rigors and challenges of the modern practice.

David G. Walters, DC, DACRB, CES

Professor, Parker Chiropractic Wellness Clinic – Dallas

Dr. Walters received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University College of Chiropractic in 1991. He began his dedicated service to Parker in 1996 and is currently serving as a clinic faculty director at Parker University Chiropractic Wellness Clinics. Dr. Walters has received his diplomat in Chiropractic Rehabilitation and a specialist certification in Corrective Exercise from the National Association of Sports Medicine. He is also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician as well as a Kinesio Tape and Functional Kinetic Treatment practitioner.

In addition to working at Parker University, he owned and maintained a private practice in Irving, TX from 1994 until 2010. Dr. Walters is an active member of the American Chiropractic College of Rehabilitative Science. His annual recertification of his diplomat in rehabilitation allows him to stay current with issues and topics associated with functional rehabilitation and performance.

John Marth, DC

Associate Professor, Parker Chiropractic Wellness Clinic – Dallas

Dr. John Marth is a clinic faculty doctor at Parker University Chiropractic Wellness Clinics. Dr. Marth was born and raised in Long Island, NY, and received his doctorate in 1985 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. His postgraduate work included working as an associate doctor in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. He also worked as a spinal screener for 12 clinics in the DFW area and as an associate doctor in Garland, Texas. In 1988, Dr. Marth started and ran a successful clinic in DeSoto, Texas, until selling it in 2008. In 2006, he became a clinic faculty doctor at Parker University Chiropractic Wellness Clinics.

Dr. Marth brings several years of knowledge and experience in which he is constantly striving to learn the latest breakthroughs in health and chiropractic to better serve his patients and students.
