The 2019 legislative session is over and, while the Texas Chiropractic Association was able to pull out some wins, we also suffered a major loss. Chiropractic’s biggest win this legislative session was the passage of the provider discrimination bill. This bill should promote equality of reimbursement for chiropractic services in the state of Texas. We were also able to maintain the right for chiropractors to use acupuncture in their practices.

These wins are significant, however, they did not offset my disappointment in failing to pass our neuro bill which would have preserved the status quo of having neurology in the chiropractic scope of practice. We were able to get this bill out of committee late in the session, but it was too little, too late unfortunately.

The next battle we face is in the courtroom as the TCA and TBCE attempt to appeal our neurology lawsuit with the TMA and have our case heard by the Texas Supreme Court. This will require financial help from our friends of chiropractic in Texas.
